Building Permits and Inspection Services

The Building Inspector is available Monday through Friday each week during normal working hours, 8:30 am - 4:45 p.m. and can be contacted at 250-427-9655 or email at achristie@kimberley.ca.

Building Permit applications may be obtained at City Hall (340 Spokane Street) during regular office hours or on the Web under the “forms” directory.   Upon submitting your application:

• ensure that all pertinent information is provided such as owner name, mailing address, contractor name and mailing address.  Provide two (2) sets of construction blue-prints/sketches showing dimensions of the building, details of the foundations, floor plans showing use, elevations and structural section construction details;
• provide a detailed plot plan indicating the location of the proposed work on the property in relation to the distances from all property lines;
• provide proof of property ownership or a letter of authorization from the owner; 
• provide Homeowner Warranty Registration form (for all new dwellings).

Upon receipt of the application complete with the information noted above, the goal is to turn around the application within ten (10) working days.  The applicant will be contacted at which time the fee will be required and the permit issued.  Building Permits are valid for a two-year period from date of issuance.

The primary purpose of a building permit is to ensure that all buildings comply with health, safety and zoning requirements as established by the Province and the Municipality.

Building restrictions and applicable fees are set out under City of Kimberley Building Bylaw No. 1876, 1995.  Setback information can be found within the "City of Kimberley Zoning Bylaw No. 1850, 1994" (and amendments) and the "Alpine Resort Zoning Bylaw No. 2016, 1999" (and amendments) and are specific to the subject property’s zone.
