SNOW REMOVAL SURVIVAL TIPS
Each winter the City’s Operations Services Department has the responsibility of maintaining in a safe and passable condition approximately 100 km of streets, trails and lanes within the City. We endeavour to accomplish this task in the most cost effective manner possible while still maintaining a high level of service to the public. How we plan snow removal: · sanding and plowing priorities are based on volume of traffic and steepness of terrain, with main streets and hills completed first · collector streets with heavy traffic are then plowed · residential streets are plowed last and if a major snow event occurs before crews have been able to clear residential areas from previous snowfalls we go back to priority areas to ensure access · It is the responsibility of property owners to clean snow from sidewalks adjacent to their property · The placing of snow on the travelled portion of the roadway is not permitted under the City’s Traffic Control Bylaw For plowing and sanding complaints and requests, call 250 427-5311 ext 213 during normal working hours (8:30am – 4:45pm Monday to Friday), after normal working hours, weekends and statutory holidays calls should go to 250 427-4114. Please remember that snow and ice control is not a substitute for caution and defensive driving practices when operating a vehicle under winter conditions. We wish you a safe and enjoyable winter season and look forward to serving you in the months ahead. OPERATIONS SERVICES DEPARTMENT |
